Where & How Fishing Becomes Available

Fishing is unlocked in Timesville during Chapter 1. Talk to Catthew (the red cat) and play hide-and-seek with him three times to earn the Fishing License. With the license equipped, the diver at the dock will step aside and the fishing rod becomes interactive.

Controls & the Cast/Reel Loop

Press M1 to cast the line, then watch the bobber. When a sparkle appears, press M1 again to hook the fish. The reeling phase displays two X markers; move the mouse left and right to crank the reel, staying inside the band between the markers. Releasing inside the band keeps the catch, while drifting outside causes the fish to escape.

Time Slots & Fish Availability

Timesville tracks an in-world day/night clock that advances whenever Mellow enters or leaves a building. Each clock position exposes a different set of three fish, and catching the three species available at the current time is what counts toward both the local quest and the global fish collection.

Complete Fish Requirement

Current research supports a 18-fish total spread across the day/night clock positions, three unique species per time slot. Both the aquarium quest and the secret-ending key use this same counter, so playing through the day-night cycle once is enough to make progress on both fronts.

The "catch one of every fish" rule is documented by community guides and confirmed by the in-game Fishing Paper; it is treated as the canonical completion requirement.

Achievement & Ending Relevance

Catching one of every fish unlocks the "I Want To Be A Fisherman" achievement. The full fish set is also required for the secret-ending key: when the doll-house safe becomes accessible, the Fishing Paper's species pictogram sits behind the lock, and only a complete collection opens it.

Troubleshooting & Missed Fish

If a fish escapes, simply re-cast during the same time slot — nothing is consumed and progress is not lost. Time is the easiest thing to misread: re-enter any building if you suspect the clock has not advanced, and confirm the current period before committing to a cast. If a body part washes up on the line, the music for the rest of that night stops — a known side effect rather than a soft-lock.
